- Stress Testing Instructions

A stress test and a stress echo are tests that help confirm or rule out coronary artery disease.
An EKG is performed as the patient exercises in a controlled manner on a treadmill at varied speeds and elevations Exercise is performed by walking on a treadmill. Your heart is monitored for evidence of blockages or arrhythmias by ECG and blood pressure readings. The speed and incline of the treadmill increase every three minutes. The average time walking on the treadmill is between 6 to 9 minutes.
A stress echo also involves ultrasound images taken of your heart before and immediately after exercise.
A cardiologist will discuss your test results after the procedure is performed. The Cardiovascular Group will fax the test results to your primary care physician.

A dobutamine/stress echo is a test that helps detect heart irregularities, disease and damage.An EKG is performed as the patient exercises in a controlled manner on a treadmill at varied speeds and elevations. Ultrasound images are taken of your heart before and immediately after walking on the treadmill. The average time walking on the treadmill is between 6 to 9 minutes.
If you are unable to exercise, a chemical, dobutamine can be injected into your bloodstream to make your heart work as hard as if you were exercising.
A cardiologist will discuss your test result after the procedure is performed. The Cardiovascular Group will correlate the test results to your primary care physician.
